Canada - 41st General Federal Election - TBA due to Minority Parliament but not after October 15, 2012
Description - Like all provincial elections in Canada, the federal Parliament's House of Commons (lower house) is elected via 308 individual local riding elections on a one ballot, single winner voting system. The Governor General of Canada typically appoints the Prime Minister and government based on whoever wins a plurality of the 308 seats; if the governing party has less than 154 seats, a minority Parliament is established wherein the government needs at least one other party to support its legislation in order to pass its bills; the non-governing opposition can, in this case, also elect to vote against the government in confidence motions/bills, which typically triggers an election.
